Rex Leadership Institute builds the operational discipline pastors aren't trained for in seminary: running a growing congregation like the organization it already is, from church plants to megachurches.
Naming where the organization has gaps instead of covering for them, and making the unpopular call when it's the right one.
The day-to-day discipline of running teams, budgets, and decisions well. This is what The Mirror™ measures.
Running the organization with the same rigor as any well-managed institution, because the mission it serves deserves nothing less.
Seminaries form character and doctrine. Almost nothing forms the operational discipline needed to run a growing congregation: managing its finances, leading its people, navigating its legal environment, and representing it well to government and community. The Mirror™ is Rex Leadership Institute's answer to that gap. It's an organizational leadership framework, kept deliberately separate from spiritual and theological formation, which stays the church's own domain.
It organizes leadership capacity into three pillars, in the order it's naturally built: leading yourself and your people, running the operation, and facing outward.
Build yourself. Build your team. Build a ministry that lasts.
A church planter and a multi-site pastor do not face the same job, so they are not measured against the same standard. Before you answer a single statement, The Mirror™ asks how large your congregation is, then scores you against what a church of that size actually requires.
Solo or bivocational leadership, few or no paid staff, volunteer-run.
Some paid staff, own or leased premises, a functioning board and a real budget.
Departments, multiple services or campuses, significant staff and property.
And the bar does not only go up. On a handful of skills — event logistics, cash flow, donor relationships, running your own sound desk — the requirement is deliberately higher for a smaller church, because the leader personally does that work instead of overseeing someone who does.
The Mirror™ isn't just a one-time score. It's the spine of a structured program — from your first self-assessment to a measured shift in your priority gaps.
Take the 35-statement Mirror before enrolling. You tell us your congregation size, and the report benchmarks you against that band — not against a single standard applied to every church. Free, and takes 8–10 minutes.
Once you enroll, a small group you nominate — staff, board, a peer — gives upward feedback before the program starts, so your plan is built on the full picture, not just your own view of it.
One full-day workshop per pillar, working through the full framework together as a cohort.
One connect per pillar. Bring a real, current challenge from your own church and work it through with peers facing the same gap.
Personal coaching to apply the framework to your specific context, church, and gaps — not generic advice.
Retake the Mirror at the end of the program. Your report shows exactly how your priority pillar and competency gaps moved — the same instrument, so the comparison is real.
35 statements, about 8–10 minutes, one scored report — benchmarked against what a church of your size actually requires.

Rex also leads worship at his local church. He founded Rex Leadership Institute to bring this same rigour to pastors and emerging church leaders, who are often trained for ministry but not for leading people, running operations, and building organizations. The Institute's flagship assessment, The Mirror™, is built on three pillars: Leading Yourself & Your People, Running the Operation, and Facing Outward.
